Press release: Council takes action on Recreational Marihuana

For Immediate Release – June 17, 2019

Oxford, Michigan – Tuesday June 11th the  Oxford Village Council took additional action regarding the new Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act (MRTMA). Council action is meant to give the Planning Commission more time to research and come up with a future ordinance that will regulate marihuana establishments per the MRTMA. The action taken puts in motion the process to adopt an ordinance prepared by legal counsel that states; "The Village of Oxford hereby prohibits all marihuana establishments within the boundaries of the Village of Oxford pursuant to initiated law 1 of 2018, MCL 333.27952 et seq., specifically at MCL 333.27956, or as otherwise codified or amended".

The proposed ordinance will have a sunset clause of June 30th 2020.

The Planning Commission will determine what, if any, commercial uses of recreational Marihuana will be permitted. This is an ongoing process, and additional updates will be made throughout the process.
